The official presentation of the Milan football team, which will play the Italian soccer championship of 2008-09, has never been so sparkling thanks to the new red and black players, Flamini, Zambrotta, Borriello, the long awaited Ronaldinho and Ferrari’s bubbles Perlè 2003. Flûtes of Ferrari started the delicious reception prepared by the Giannino restaurant of Milan. The festivities ended after a toast of good wishes with a Jeroboam bottle of Ferrari, with a special Milan tailored label. Then Guido Pianaroli, Managing Director of Ferrari, handed over to Adriano Galliani two historic Ferrari Magnum bottles, one for Silvio Berlusconi and the other for him. Historic because they were made with the grape harvest of 1986, the year in which Berlusconi bought the Milan football Club and started an irresistible ascent which brought Milan to its present standing, with the title recently won, number 1 in the world.

Baptism at Villa Margon of Segnana grappa, brewed from Ferrari grapes

From the best Trentino grapes is not only created Ferrari spumante, but also the great Segnana grappa. The name comes from the oldest distillery in Trentino, almost 150 years of history, belonging to the Lunelli family since 1982, the same owner of Ferrari spumante. In fact Segnana grappa is born from Ferrari bubbles: it comes from its marc brewed in the distillery, a monument of advanced technology and tradition, placed few meters away of Ferrari cellars.

After years of research and experimentation, Segnana grappa has been restyled in all its aspects (beginning from an immediately patented system of distillation and ending with brand new, elegant, and slender bottles considered real works of art) as a sign of a new strategy to become an alternative to imported distillates and an expression of a more refined Italy abroad.
These new products will be on the market at the end of June and will represent a purer, smoother and more elegant grappa. Their names are: Solera Selezione; Solera di Solera; Sherry Cask, a revolutionary distillate refined in the same casks where the great sherry Gonzales-Byass has been aged; Estrema and Cinquanta, a kind of taunt, 50 velvety degrees which are not perceived. Without forgetting Gentile, restyled in order to enhance its smoothness and the monovarietals grappa: Traminer and Moscato have been added to the well known Chardonnay and Pinot Nero, direct expression of the Ferrari grapes. All these new products have been greatly appreciated, since the official presentation held in Trento on the 24th of May at the splendid Villa Margon in front of journalists and experts.

The innovative spirit of the new Segnana line was first presented by Matteo Lunelli, Vice President of the Lunelli Group, head to the Segnana distillery, then by Guido Pianaroli, Managing Director. Finally, Marcello Lunelli had the charge of leading the testing of the grappa, underlining its unmistakable and fascinating characteristics. These were also discovered, aside the grappa testing, in the courses of the meal offered to the guests. Served in the main salon of Villa Margon, the lunch was conceived by Walter Miori, esteemed chef of Locanda Margon, the restaurant considered the temple of the best Trentino cuisine, in the exaltation of the marvels a great grappa can give at the table.
The new Segnana grappa, which had the honour of being presented by a reportage of Studio Aperto, the newscast of Italia 1 channel, were protagonists even at the end of the lunch, thanks to Solera Selezione and Solera di Solera poured at room-temperature in “balloon” glasses in fine combination with either dark chocolate or Tuscan cigars.

Ferrari labels win first and second place
in the Weinwelt wine-tasting

First place goes to the Giulio Ferrari. Second place goes, to the Ferrari Perlé. This is the result of the wine-tasting involving two opposing classic method spumantes: Trentodoc and Franciacorta. The duel between the two most popular and famous bubbles in Italy was conceived by one of the most influential wine magazines in the world, the German magazine Weinwelt, which compared the labels from the two areas in a wine-tasting carried out by a panel of experts. With the result that in first place with five stars and 95 points came the most prize-winning Italian label ever, namely the Giulio Ferrari. In second place, with four stars and 93 points, the Ferrari Perlé, the other great label from the Trentino winery. These were followed, with 92 points, by the labels Franciacorta, Ca’ del Bosco, Villa, Monte Rossa and Bellavista.
Four years ago Weinwelt crowned Giulio Ferrari as the best bubbles by far. That time the wine-tasting involved 36 of the most famous classic method spumantes of France, Spain, Germany and Italy, in a nutshell the best in the world. The Giulio Ferrari was awarded five stars, one more than the Dom Pérignon, the only one with four stars and two more than many famous labels from over the Alps such as Ruinart, Bollinger, Taittinger and Veuve Cliquot.

The Metodo Classico has been appreciated more and for Ferrari Sparkling wine is another record year.

The Italians have changed their customs: they drink sparkling wine Metodo Classico not only for festivities and during parties, but also for aperitifs and more often than not they want it on the table for the whole meal. This memorable change and the great results achieved on the foreign market explain why 2007 for the Ferrari Winery is expected to be a record year.
“We are recording a remarkable increase in demand due to a cultural change towards the Metodo Classico ” notes Matteo Lunelli, Vice President of the Ferrari Winery. “In fact, at the end of October we have been forced to close the 2007 sales and delivered only the last reserved bottles “
The stop in sales has been decided despite the fact that in the Ferrari Winery there are 20 million bottles in stock. “Yes, it is right” admits Matteo Lunelli “but the wine is sent to our client only after a multi-year maturation period and the bottles we have in the cellar are not ready yet. They need to rest and they will be on the market only when they have reached, according to our enologists’ judgement, the perfect degree of maturation. During its more than one century of history, our winery has never compromised quality and this is the path we will continue to follow in order to reach excellence.”

The vintage Ferrari Perlè wins the prize “Three Glasses”.

The Ferrari Perlè Trento Doc wins the “Three Glasses” which represents the most important prize of one of the most prestigious and popular guides, Wines of Italy 2008 of Gambero Rosso and Slow Food Publisher. It is the first time that the Perlè wins this honor and it is also the first time, in the “three Glasses” history, that a label, which is for the Italians the symbol of excellent toasts, reaches such a winning post.
Blanc de blancs created only with grapes that come from Chardonnay vineyards belonging to Ferrari winery, the Perlè has obtained this prestigious prize with the 2002 grape harvest.
“This” comments Marcello and Matteo Lunelli “is a prize that make us very proud; it confirms that we have reached excellence with all the Ferrari labels.”
In the Wines of Italy 2008 the legendary Giulio Ferrari is not present, because the 1998 grape harvest was not up to the top quality of Italy’s most rewarded bubbles.
